How to Use Passata Sauce

Whether in sauce, on a pizza or any other Italian dish, passata can serve as a good base or the perfect finishing touch. Here's a few of our tips on how to use passata including making a pasta sauce.

What is passata sauce?

Passata sauce (often called passata di pomodoro) is a smooth, uncooked tomato purée, made by straining and sieving peeled tomatoes to remove skins and seeds. The result is a smooth, saucelike consistency. Unlike many jarred pasta sauces, it’s usually just tomatoes, free of herbs, oils and seasoning, so it acts as a great authentic Italian sauce base, rather than a finished sauce.

Napolina Passata is extremely versatile and can be used to make many dishes, including Neapolitan pizza, pasta, casseroles and more – it’s one of Nonna’s favourite ingredients (enjoy more of Nonna’s Tips here!)

How to use Passata sauce for Italian recipes?
